The Covellite Theatre and Uptown Lounge, a non-profit at 215 West Broadway Street, Butte, MT, hosts all kinds of events every week in two unique performance spaces. Upstairs, a medium-capacity (350 seat) proscenium stage theatre seating venue with a big screen projector, line array speaker system and moving lights, and attached green room. On the ground floor, the Uptown Lounge is a more intimate (150 capacity) scene with a bar, cabaret seating, and a black box stage.
Originally built in 1896 as the First Presbyterian Church, this stunning historic structure has served many purposes over the decades, and was first named The Covellite Theatre in the 1990’s. “Covellite” is a rare, iridescent indigo blue copper sulfide mineral found in Mount Vesuvius, Germany, Argentina, and Silver Bow County, Montana, to name a few. Under new ownership and management since August 2023, the Covellite now hosts a wide variety of events including: live music, stage plays, comedy, film, dance lessons, vaudeville, burlesque, workshops, classes, weddings, festivals, and fundraisers.
The Covellite has free popcorn and a variety of drinks for purchase: beer, wine, canned cocktails, kombucha, CBD seltzers, sparkling water, soda, and more.
